EA reports that the launch of FIFA 23 has led to a new record in the number of players. According to the gaming company, over 10.3 million will have played the game during the launch week. This is a new record for the series.

In comparison, last year’s FIFA 22 “only” managed to reach 9.1 million players in the first 10 days after the game went on sale.

– The response from the fans has been absolutely incredible, and we are overjoyed that the gaming community is playing with their favorite players and teams and mustering record numbers for FIFA 23, EA CEO Nick Wlofyka says in the press

Maybe the last EA game with the FIFA name

With this, it looks like EA’s FIFA series is rounding off on a high note, at least in terms of players. As we learned this summer, FIFA 23 will be the last game from EA to bear the FIFA name, thus putting an end to the nearly 30-year-old collaboration. Starting next year, the series will be renamed EA Sports FC, after EA and the International Football Association have failed to reach a new agreement.

For its part, the association promises to continue with its own soccer games after the break with EA.

Even though FIFA 23 has reached a new player record for the series, this year’s feature cannot adorn itself with as much critical praise. On the review aggregator site Metacritic, the PlayStation 5 version of the game has a score of 76, which is a few points lower than the series’ high.
