Cloud9 Esports is an esports organization based in California. It was founded as a League of Legends team in 2013. The team was originally a player-owned team before they were acquired by Quanting Gaming in the same year. But after a few weeks, the contract of the players was sold to Jack Etienne.
Now why are we talking about Cloud9? Well, a recent news about Cloud9 is now viral. It has signed an academy roster in CS:GO which had made this organization the latest to enter CS:GO at an academy level. The team comprises of Artem “sstr1ct” Mesnyankin, Vladislav “h1te” Khait, Maxim “dekz” Korolev, Matvei “sm3t” Gogin, and in-game leader being Daniil “alpha” Denim.
After the creation of the WePlay Academy League in August 2021, Junior rosters have become a trend. Currently, this event is on the fifth edition and it will have a prize pool of $100,000 for the teams of academy.
However, the dates of C9’s academy team are not revealed yet. Most likely the players can attend the open qualifiers and online cash cup in this month.
Ivan “F_1N” Kochugov is allotted as the coach of the team. Kochugov is a Russian professional counter-strike: Global offensive analyst for Cloud9. He has many years’ experiences as a head coach. But he couldn’t continue with the role because of his suspension by Esports Integrity Commission in 2020 for exploiting an instance of the infamous spectator bug. He is also playing the role of analyst of C9 since April 2022, when the organization picked up the former Gambit lineup.
Cloud9 said, “We are excited to announce that Cloud9 is expanding its presence in the CS:GO scene. Our academy squad consists of five young prospects and will be coached by Ivan “F_1N” Kochugov, who has previously worked as the main team’s head coach and analyst. Our initial goals for this squad are to get competitive experience and with time to establish itself as a top 30 teams in the world.”
So this gonna be an expectency that cant be expected soon enough. I`ll guess time will tell 🙂
